KORE Privacy Policy
KORE ("the app") is a free app for finding public restrooms in Korea on a map. This policy explains what information the app collects, what it is used for, and how you can delete it.
1. Information we collect
a. Information you provide
- Account details — your email address and password, only if you choose to sign up. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication and are never visible to us.
- Nickname — optional, and shown publicly on the contributor board, the game boards and your reviews. Without one you are listed as "Anonymous".
- Restroom submissions and edit suggestions — the location (coordinates), name, address, description and photos.
- Reviews — a rating, up to 1,000 characters of text, and the language you wrote it in.
- Messages — what you write to us, plus any contact detail you choose to leave for a reply.
- Game scores — your minigame scores and when they were set.
b. Information handled automatically
- An anonymous identifier — every device gets an anonymous account (UID) even without signing in. It is what connects a submission, message, review or score to whoever sent it, so a reply can reach you. It is not linked to your name, email or any other identity.
- Location — if you grant permission, your device's current position while you are using the map. It is never collected in the background, and it is not stored on a server or kept as a history.
- Device integrity signals — app attestation through Apple DeviceCheck / Google Play Integrity (App Check). It blocks forged requests from tampered clients and does not identify you.
c. What we do not collect
No advertising identifier (IDFA/AAID), no contacts or address book, no camera or microphone, no physical-activity data such as step counts, and no behavioural analytics — screen views, search terms or launch counts. The app contains no advertising SDK and no analytics SDK.

3. What becomes public
- Approved restroom information and photos appear on every user's map.
- Reviews are public, shown with your nickname (or "Anonymous") and machine-translated into nine languages.
- The contributor board and game boards show nicknames and scores. Your email address is never shown anywhere in the app.
- "Only me" markers are not published to other users. The operator can access them for service administration and to answer for unlawful content.
4. Third-party services
The app uses the services below, each governed by its own privacy policy.
- Google Firebase (Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Storage, Cloud Functions, App Check) — storing and processing accounts, submissions, reviews, messages, photos and scores.
- Google Maps Platform — rendering the map, address search and geocoding.
- Google Cloud Translation — translating submissions and reviews.
- TMAP (SK Telecom) and the Apple Maps Server API — calculating walking routes. Only the start and destination coordinates are sent, only when you ask for a route, and never your account details.
- The TMAP · KakaoMap · Naver Map apps — tapping a navigation button passes the destination's coordinates and name to that app, which then handles it under its own policy.
Data is stored and processed primarily in Google Cloud's Seoul region (asia-northeast3); given how these services are built, some processing may take place outside Korea. We do not sell your personal data.
5. How long we keep it
- Account details and your nickname are deleted when you delete your account.
- Messages and their replies are kept after they are answered so the same enquiry can be looked up again; ask us and we will delete them.
- Rejected submissions are deleted immediately. Submissions that were approved and published remain after account deletion, because they have become part of the map other people use — no longer tied to their author.
- You can edit or delete your own reviews at any time.
6. Your rights and how to delete
Settings → Delete account in the app deletes your account and its data immediately, nickname included. To access, correct, delete or restrict processing of anything else — including things contributed without an account — email us at the address below and we will act on it without undue delay.
7. Security
All traffic is encrypted over HTTPS, and passwords are stored as hashes by Google Firebase Authentication. The database is protected by per-document access rules, so you can only change or delete what you wrote. Requests reaching the backend are verified with App Check.
8. Children
The app is not directed at children under 14 and we do not knowingly collect their personal data. If we learn that we have, we delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
Any change is published on this page with a new effective date. Significant changes are also announced in the app or in its release notes.
